Culvert Pipe Questions & Answers

What North Texas homeowners, builders and contractors ask us most about culvert pipe, permits and delivery.

What size culvert pipe do I need for my driveway?

It depends on how much water the ditch carries. Many North Texas cities and counties set a minimum diameter for driveway culverts, and some will tell you the exact size when you apply for your permit. Check with your city (inside city limits) or county (unincorporated areas) first, then send us the size and length and we'll quote it.

What sizes and lengths of culvert pipe do you carry?

We carry galvanized corrugated steel culvert pipe from 12" to 96" in diameter, in 20', 24' and 30' lengths, plus matching coupling bands and concrete or steel safety ends.

Do you deliver to my jobsite?

Yes. We deliver culvert pipe and accessories directly to jobsites across Dallas–Fort Worth and North Texas, anywhere within about 80 miles of Collin County, Texas. See our service area page for the cities we cover.

Do I need a permit to install a driveway culvert?

Usually, yes. Inside city limits the city's public works or engineering department issues driveway and culvert permits. In unincorporated areas it's typically the county. If your driveway connects to a state highway, TxDOT handles the permit for its right-of-way.

What gauge culvert pipe should I use?

Most residential driveway culverts use 16-gauge galvanized pipe. Larger diameters, deeper cover or heavy truck traffic can call for a heavier gauge. Tell us your diameter and how the crossing will be used and we'll confirm the right gauge on your quote.

What is a coupling band used for?

A coupling band joins two sections of culvert pipe. It wraps the joint and bolts tight so the pipe stays aligned and soil can't wash in at the seam. You need one band for every joint, sized to match the pipe diameter.

What are culvert safety ends?

Safety ends are sloped end sections, in precast concrete or steel, that go on each end of a culvert. They remove the drop-off at the edge of a driveway or road, improve water flow and reduce erosion. Many cities and counties require them on driveway culverts.
